MR LORBAK (卤肉先生) – Ubi, Singapore

Advertisements

I chanced upon this little stall within a coffeeshop when I was there for my regular chicken rice fix. You can read more about it and my number one ranking Prata stall here (https://eatwithroy.com/2016/04/13/ubi350/.)

The stall started in Feb this year at Bedok but moved to Ubi in April, and have been building momentum since. Especially so after Seth (Seth Lui) and Maureen (Miss Tam Chiak) have written about it. The owner of this humble stall is William, age 31 this year, with a number of years in the F&B scene, decided to drop his corporate life to share his grandma’s recipe with all of us! How great art thou! 😂 I always love tradition home recipes! 😬 Check out the pics and review below:

Rating: 5/5.

Taste: Pork belly was tender and the fatty parts just melts in your mouth. Sauce was not salty with rice, I must say it’s just nice. Sides were not bad, love all but would like the tau pok to be a little more softer.

Portion: Average. I can never get enough of pork belly lah so I wished I could have the option to buy more next time!

Service: Self-service

Ambience: Coffeeshop

Price: Pork Belly Rice Set ($3.50) comes with a braised egg and black fungus. Sides are $0.50 each type per portion. Very affordable!

RTE: Hell yeah!!!

好味健康汤 (Good Taste Healthy Soups) – Ubi, Singapore

I was quite skeptical about writing this ‘cos the aunty from this stall told me how she’s trying to cope managing the stall alone. Occasionally you would see her son helping out during lunch time but I doubt he’s there all the time. Anyways, I want to share how wonderful the soups that are sold here. See my comments below:

The stall and that’s the aunty, son not in sight. Simple 9 soups on the menu, no veg as she told me she can’t cope, and the options of white rice or pumpkin rice. I’ve tried 2, 6, 7 and 8. All very nice but my favourite is still number 8.
This is no. 8. 十全大补参鸡汤 (Ten Tonic Ginseng Herbal Chicken Soup) $6.00. Comes with a big chicken thigh. If the thigh is too small, she will substitute with a little fish maw as you can see here. The broth is rich and awesome, really perks me up especially when I feel lousy along the week. Feels like home cooked soup!
Pumpkin Rice $0.80 – Fragrant and tasty. Bits of smashed up pumpkin and dried shrimps inside. Goes very well with the red cut chillies. Yums!

Rating: 5/5.

Taste: No MSG! Really great tasting and even my colleagues love this! Try it and let me know what you think of this!

Portion: Average.

Service: Aunty is nice and friendly.

Ambience: Coffeeshop.

Price: See pics.

RTE: All the time!
