宫廷月亮虾饼 (Prawn Cakes) – Xiamen, Guangdong, China


This is a famous franchise chain of street food which you can see in tourist spots in Xiamen. I went to the one at Zhongshang Lu since I wanted to visit there to check out this famous walking street of Xiamen. 宫廷 means ‘Palace’ in Chinese, makes me wonder sometimes if this snack was an official imperial dish that was served to the royalties.

Was there around 2pm and surprisingly, the street was empty.

Prawn Cakes – It’s prawn cake as it is. Nothing special. It taste good just like anything that is served hot.

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: 4/5. Everything is made to order. Hence it’s served hot all the time. They have the BBQ squid and another prawn cutlet which I didn’t try. Too full!

Portion: 4/5. 

Service: Girls gets better service.

Ambience: N/A. Stand by the side and eat!

Price: RMB$15. Can check out for online discount groupons for RMB$10 per piece.

RTE: Maybe, if I have stomach space.

Traditional Teochew Kueh Stall (49 Sims Place)

One of the best teochew kueh I’ve tasted and have been going back to this same place when I have craving for soon kueh, ku cai kueh, peng kueh, yam cake, glutinous rice, black sesame kueh, cabbage kueh, etc… Located where loads of good food are located, the stall is at #01-123 of 49 Sim Place market/food centre.

damn nice soon kueh with loads of fillings... everything is home made and very nice skin! 80 cents!

Rice Kueh... loads of mushrooms and dried shrimps... very nice and tender without any peanuts inside. 80 cents too!
Yam cake. Only $1.20. Very nice...

Taste: What can I say, it’s damn good! Try the gu cai kueh and black sesame cake also!

Portion: Loads of fillings!

Price: Cheap throughout… they cater for occassions too… call them to find out.
