鸿运茶餐厅 (Hung Wan Restaurant) – Shenzhen, China

Advertisements

Hung Wan Restaurant is a Cha Can Ting I frequent when I was staying in Shenzhen, China. The best thing about this place is, it is just below the regular spa I frequent too. So can order their food up and eat while I was watching TV program or having a foot massage! Awesome lifestyle back then and missing it definitely.

Hung Wan I believe are owned by Hong Kongers and they have gone through renovation recently and the interior designing was done by Millwork Interiors based in HK too. Very excellent work done, with a vibrant and energetic design giving the restaurant a younger and fresher look. Check out the pics below:

Lovely Milk Tea
Cha Can Ting fried drumsticks are usually quite yummy
My fav fried maggie with pork chops!

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Not bad. Tasted better but nice enough to curb my cravings. A bit on the oily side though.

Portion: Average.

Service: Slow… Cos 24hrs… lesser staff?

Ambience: Smoking now disallowed inside aircon areas but still you get some assholes smoking inside.

Price: Total about SGD$12.

RTE: Yeah if I’m visiting that spa again.

Shenjing is famous for it’s roast goose in Hong Kong but you don’t have to travel there just to look for good roast goose. Many have learnt the trick of roasting good goose and they are all over HK and Guangdong province of China. One of which, was pretty near my Shenzhen office at Huaqiangbei area, the electronic city of Shenzhen.

The eatery is very very small and usually super crowded during lunch hours. The weird thing is, their meals are not cheap there as compared to some RMB$15 ones along the same road. But people would queue up and pack or dine in. So I gave it a try, and was lucky to find a table.

Store front
Left only 1 goose, sold out pretty fast so have to wait for second batch if late.
See how small the place
Soup of The Day or 例汤. Usually some veg thrown in with the greasy goose bones.
Char Siew and Roast Goose Platter (RMB68)
Goose Liver (RMB4)
Char Siew too lean for me

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Roast goose not bad. The skin is the key factor. Very yummy. Flesh is tender. Char siew is typical lah, lean and a bit chewy cos of the tendons.

Portion: Average.

Price: As above on the pics.

Service: Fast and poor.

Ambience: Small, crampy and loud.

RTE: Tapao maybe. Will ask the runners to tapao next time.

小桃园酒家 Arcadia Restaurant – Shenzhen, China

In Guangdong China, you have to eat dim sum. But where to have dimsum since everywhere has dimsum? One of the best places for good dimsum is not in a 5 star hotel or some posh restaurant but at this Arcadia Restaurant located in Luohu of Shenzhen. This place is really crowded and dimsum is available from 9am-5pm daily. This time, I had one of the best tables with the lovely view of the river that divides Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Check out my video below:

Overall Rating: 5/5. Good price, taste good, good views!

Discovered a nice dessert place also in the Shui Wei town of the Futian District in Shenzhen. I’ve walked past this place before twice and only went in to check it out on the third time. It is said to be originated from HK but I haven’t seen this in HK though… The cafe is nicely decorated like a usual HK Cafe (Cha Can Ting) and was greeted when we stepped into the place. Check out the video that I’ve done below:

Overall Rating: 4.5/5. Could be a full 5 if the latte was prepared better. The poor pulling of the espresso shot was apparent in the taste. Waffles was awesome, good portioning and the set was totally value for money.

深美餐厅 – Shenzhen, China

If you’ve visited Shenzhen, China, you probably might not know this place. Although situated near the Futian customs, this place is not known to tourists or even most locals. Located at the midst of Shui Wei Village of Huanggang Town, you can’t miss this corner cafe with its nicely renovated interior and exterior.  Check out the food I tried below:

Cafe front
Interior
Selfie with the decor of bird cages
Dumpling – One big dumpling in nice stock. This is nice.
Filled with ingredients.
Typical canton entree also. Fried eggy flour curls with sugar coating. This is made to perfection… soft inside and crispy on the outside.
Rice flour rolls with crispy bits and shrimps inside. Quite innovative and the combination tasted pretty good.
Same rice rolls with char siew. Char siew was quite little though but the rolls are nice and tender. Tasted a little milky though, quite new experience for me.
Siew Mai – Another typical HK dimsum must have. Each with a shrimp on top.
Fried Instant Noodles with Pork Chop – A standard entree in most HK cafes, this one is not bad.
As usual, I would need a plate of veg!
Iced Milk Tea without the ice… non-diluted milk tea at its best!

Rating: 4/5. Confusing menu which I’ll write about in my next post!

Taste: 5/5. Value for money and taste good at the same time!

Portion: Average.

Service: 4/5. Quite good service overall.

Ambience: 4/5. Nice decor but smoking still present even though the government has banned smoking indoors.

Price: Very affordable. Whole meal for 2 is around RMB$110. No tipping required.

RTE: Yes if around that area!

Location: See last pic.

Tips: Sit near the door if you don’t smoke like me. 🙂

香港新发烧腊茶餐厅 – Shenzhen, China

Seems like many first times… if not I will not be writing about them haha… I was heading to my favorite coffee place and was looking for some food before that and I found this place. Apparently it’s a famous chain in Hong Kong since 1974 and they have expanded into Shenzhen since 2002. This place can get quite crowded and there’ll be lots of seats outside this place for those who wanna wait.

I didn’t try a lot as I’m controlling my food intake and was alone. So I tried what a Cha Can Ting should be good for; the pork chop bun and century egg porridge. The pork chop bun was really good, at least the pork chops were not dry. Well seasoned and juicy. The porridge was just awesome. With shreds of pork, and a lot of it, to flavor the porridge totally. These 2 items alone I give it 5 stars. Will check out their roast meats the next time.
