Bakerz@Work – Macpherson, Singapore

Advertisements

I discovered this place recently near where I work and I believe it commenced business not too long ago. Located just below Citimac Industrial Complex, opposite the huge Cross of Trinity Church, this bakery cafe shop is quite a saviour for me especially when I need my fix of caffeine at the end of a busy day.

This place has not just gourmet coffees but also crafted breads and cakes for customers. On top of that, they have a good range of baking equipment for sale in their little shop. Further in, there is a room for baking workshops that can fit easily 20 pax.

Chef De Boulanger William Woo conducts such classes and he is also one of the owners for this place. Chef Woo is from Penang, Malaysia, and has a long work history in F&B and baking. His deep passion (just like me for food & coffee!) is then realised in Singapore after setting up Bakers@Work to let more people try his breads and teach them how to bake at home. Despite the high rentals, he is persevering to brand Bakers@Work as a quality baking school/cafe/shop at reasonable prices. Check out the pics below:

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: Latte was good, espresso was pretty well extracted. Cakes are definitely good, that’s their forte isn’t it? Bought a pumpkin loaf before, damn awesome. Lunch they have sandwiches/paninis etc. with cured meats and veg.

Portion: Average.

Service: Pretty good.

Ambience: Not a full cafe with only around 4 round tables and some bar stools but comfy. I caught up with some colleagues here over coffee and cakes one evening.

Price: $4.50 for latte and $4 for cake slice. Prices differs from types of cakes.

RTE: Few times already!

Blue Rock Cafe – Perth, Australia

Hey y’all!

Finally I found some time to update this blog as I’ve just started tourwithroy.wordpress.com. Have loads of backlogs to update hence will be juggling this blog, sleepwithroy.wordpress.com and tourwithroy.wordpress.com. So please be patient with me!

Ok Blue Rock Cafe was the first place I had my meals alone on one of the mornings and with my friends for dinner. Quite a gem really ‘cos no one would have thought a cafe at the far ends of Hay Street would serve such good food! I had my brekkie here as well as dinner. Food is really good and compliments to the hard working crew and chef! Check out the favorites which we ordered!

Parmigiana Chicken with mushroom sauce. Nice and juicy!
Sirloin Steak

Taste: We finished every bit of the food. Really good and tasty!

Portion: Above average for some.

Service: Excellent! Very friendly staff and always checked back with us if we were feeling alright.

Ambience: Nice and cosy. Night time was a little chilly but for me it’s aight…

Price: See captions and last pic.

RTE: If I’m staying in the same hotel when back to Perth, I definitely would.

BANGKOK CITY HOTEL COFFEE HOUSE @ BANGKOK

Advertisements

I promise to write about this for www.agoda.com friends. If you happen to stay in this hotel like I did, and it happen to rain heavily or you happen to feel very tired and don’t feel like moving your ass to anywhere, you should really check out the food at the coffee house below.

I was having a lunch meeting one of the days at the coffee house located at the same lobby of Bangkok City Hotel. Well, it is not a distinctively coffee house but when you approach the staff at the front office, they will get someone to come and take your orders. The menus are not new, and not many varieties, afterall this is a boutique hotel. Hence I ordered what I felt like eating. They have room service as well but I reckon it’s a lot nicer to lunch downstairs and watch tourists go by… 😉

Lobby Coffee House
Pineapple Fried Rice – Awesome
Fried Kale With Roasted Pork – Apparently a local favourite
Fried Red Chicken Curry – This is a really nice dish.

Rating: 5/5

Taste: Put it this way, my Thai counterparts even agreed that the food was good! Wonder who the chef is…. hmmm…

Portion: Average

Price: Very reasonable. Suitable for lunch meetings for local Thais.

RTE: If I’m nearby or staying at same hotel again, I definitely would!
