SAJIS INDIAN FOOD @ 261 WATERLOO CENTRE

Advertisements

Was at this area for some training and noticed that there is a coffeeshop there at the ground floor of 261 Waterloo Centre, facing the Dance Ensemble Centre there.

Most stalls were closed already by the time we finished our training at 6.30pm. So we just ordered whatever there is. So we tried the Nasi Bryani and the Indian Rojak.

The coffeeshop
The Stall
Nasi Bryani... Gravy on top and rice over the chicken thigh... achar on the side is pretty refreshing though.
Revealing the chicken... hehe...
Indian Rojak! Served piping hot!

Rating: 4/5. Presentation is really bad. But food is worth the mention.

Taste: This bryani is really not bad. Reason is, they cooked it traditionally. Meaning, they cook the meat together with the rice so that the juices of the meats will trickle down the rice and the rice will be exceptionally fragrant. Exactly like what I’ve eaten while I was in Bangalore, India.  Indian Rojak is quite standard lah but most importantly, it was served hot.

Portion: Rice a bit little for a giant like me. Maybe because rice too tasty that’s why give little? Hmmm… next time must ask for extra which I believe will be like $1.00 extra for another scoop.

Price: $4.00 (Really cheap for Nasi Bryani which most places are like $4.50-$5 now.)

RTE: Yes I would and will also try the dry mee sua there which was closed.

Location: 261 Waterloo Centre. (Opposite Dance Ensemble Singapore)

Another value for money nasi padang store spotted at Roxy Square in an indoor coffeshop. I’m there every month for my haircut and this stall is new. So I tried their food and these are the pics:

Stall front
Big plate of rice with 4 dishes.
Dunno what fish was that but I suspect it was salt water catfish. Pretty good assam pedas.

Rating: 4/5

Taste: Quite good for its price

Portion: Above average

Price: $4.00 only for my plate.

RTE: Yeah I guess so… I go there for my haircut anyways. 🙂

Location: Roxy Square I , Katong(The older building)

MADAM KWAN’S @ MEGA MALL

Advertisements

If you’re at Mega Mall @ Mid Valley Malaysia, you may have a lot of choices for food. So I decided to give this Madam Kwan’s a try and I was in for some surprise… Click to enlarge pics.

The restaurant is just outside Jusco on level 2 in the centre of the mall... if I can remember clearly...Service Counter
Ambience
Pretty good Penang Char Kway Teow
Super Famous Nasi Lemak - From the left is sambal ikan bilis, cucumber, curry chicken, hard boil egg, and fish floss. I would prefer the ikan bilis to be the crispy ones with peanuts, sambal chilli on the side, sunny side up to replace the hard boil egg. But this is Malaysian style lah, but everything is very tasty.
Looks at the rice... grain by grain... very fragrant of coconut milk.
Achar by the side... not too bad but the ones at Punggol Nasi Lemak (Upp Serangoon) is a lot better.
chunky curry chicken... 2 pieces of super thick gravy curry chicken thigh meat. very nice.
Juicy Chicken Wings! Very nice and juicy when you bite into this mid section.

Rating: 4.5/5. Service not too good. Quite a shame cos they have many branches in KL and food is pretty good.

Taste: Very good. High class Malaysian local cuisine lah… But it’s good.

Portion: Average. Extra rice will cost you… forgot to take a look at the price.

Price: Total abo0ut RM$40+ for 2.

RTE: For the Nasi Lemak and I wanna try the other Nasi dunno whathat uses 3 different kinds of rice.

Location: Mega Mall @ Mid Valley centre wing

Nain Food Stall (#01-07 Sims Place Food Centre)

Advertisements

Funny I have not featured this stall. I’ve been to this Malay mixed rice stall for the longest time and just love the taste of the food here. They are not good in those nice nice food presentation but the taste of the assam pedas over the rice… I tell you, is authentic! Best thing is, it is spicy enough and not overly spicy. Love it. Must have in my nasi padang plate are Assam Stingray, Sambal Goreng (mix of long beans, bean curd and tempeh) and Sambal Dried Mussels.

The stall
Poor presentation but extremely tasty!
Cooked till just right assam pedas stingray... yum yum
Large mug of Bandung for only $1.50 available on the same row at unit #01-11. The good thing about this Bandung is, the water they use to mix this syrup is boiled with pandan leaves and that will leave a fragrance in your mouth with every sip.

Rating: 4/5 (A tad too expensive for some but then again, most Nasi Padang stalls are pretty expensive to begin with. Except the other stall which I featured earlier at Bukit Merah Central.)

Taste: Nice and authentic. I always have the assam pedas gravy over my rice. Some likes the kuah lemak one which is used for lontongs.

Portion: Generous. I asked for more rice and they can really pile up for you.

Price: $4.80 with 4 dishes and extra rice. $1.50 for the big mug of bandung.

RTE: All the time!

Location: #01-07 Sim Place Food Centre.
