TINA RINA AYAM PENYET – MACPHERSON, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

YouTube – https://youtu.be/zgVldm6Uw90

While checking out the Bak Chor Mee (BCM) from my previous post, I spotted this stall selling Nasi Padang although they sell Ayam Penyet too. I was caught by the fact they have my fav dishes of Ikan Pari (Stingray), lady’s finger (okra) and Sambal Goreng (tempeh with bean curd and long beans in sambal). So after my BCM, I went over to the stall and tapao my fav combination.

What I like about this outlet is that the kakak (sister) there very jovial and friendly. And they have a lot of dishes and mostly very tasty. Portion is good if you’re big size. 

Go check it out and let me know if you like this place too by commenting below! Please remember to subscribe and like my YouTube channel, IG and FB (@eatwithroy) page that I can reach out more to help the hawkers and small business community for FREE! Stay tuned for my next yummy video!

I first came to know Denise through Instagram and she told me about her plans to set up a Prawn Noodle stall and some more a halal one! I thought the idea was interesting and told her I’ll definitely be there when she opens.

So today is the day she started her dream. And as promised, I was there to lend her my support. See my reviews below and please support young hawkerprenuers and support local!

Congrats on your opening!!!

SERI SATAY – EUNOS, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

Intro:

Since I’m bed ridden these days I might as well write more. I promised some customers to write more on halal foods and here it is. I have been patronising this satay stall for many times now especially when BLACK&INK started cos it’s just opposite at Eunos Hawker Centre. Check out my reviews below.

The stall
The friendly Abang
My usual order of 5 x mutton and 5 x tripe
Damn yummy mutton
Somehow this tripe caramelises on the outside, damn good
All tables should be left like this. Plates empty. #worldcleanplate

Taste:

I love the authentic taste of this satay, the taste I grew up with. I believe this recipe has been passed down from generations. And the way they BBQ it is just awesome. A little burnt here and there and not overcooked. Damn yummy especially the tripe! So tender!

Price:

$0.60 per stick only. Very affordable compared to so many places.

Portion:

Good size per stick.

Service:

Served at table. The bro taking orders very friendly.

Waiting Time:

10-20mins. Depending on timing.

Rating:

5/5.

Chai Chee Nasi Lemak (1978) – Hougang, Singapore

Advertisements

Not to be confused with any outlets at Chai Chee, this stall is located at Hougang and originates all the way back to 1978. I’ve grew up with this ever since I moved to Hougang in 1986. Currently managed by 2 brothers, whom I believe is the 3rd generation.

Chai Chee Nasi Lemak not only specializes in Nasi Lemak as the name suggests, but also very good Nasi Padang dishes and classic Mee Rebus, Mee Siam and Lontong. I just love how they retain the authentic taste over the decades although it’s tough to retain the price. ;P Anyways it’s about blardy time I wrote about them and their commitment to good traditional food!

Stall front

Dishes at 8am… yes they run out pretty fast!

The 2 brothers… guess which one is the older one? 😉

One of my favorites, Mee Goreng, with sides of your choice. Right about of spice, awesome taste!

Another of my favorites, Nasi Lemak. I love my nasi lemaks with these fried fish which were fried till so crispy, you can literally consume everything. Yums to the max!

Rating: 5/5.

Taste: Malay cuisine over decades, can’t go wrong. The queue will affirm that.

Portion: Average

Service: Self-service.

Ambience: Coffee shop

Price: Reasonable

Nasi Padang @ Anna’s Cafe – Eunos, Singapore

Advertisements

Seems like I’m writing more about food that is around the coffee bar. Seriously I didn’t notice any interesting stalls inside Anna’s Cafe and it always seem gloomy and messy to me. But I ventured nevertheless, walked there one afternoon to hopefully find some hidden treasures. The first time I went I was actually taken aback by the $7.50 pack of rice but to be honest, there were 4 dishes of pretty awesome Beef Rendang, crispy salted flat fish, sambal dried mussels, some fried bittergourd and extra rice. 😁😝 So I went back again just yesterday wanting to try their Assam Pedas Fish but changed my mind when I saw the awesome squid-ink squids (sounds corny but that’s how it’s being cooked.)  Check out the pics:

Look out for Anna’s Cafe on the left of Changi Road

No sign board, that’s why my blog post no name also 😝

Variety of dishes for a small stall

The squid is da bomb! although my friend’s mum’s squids are the best. Well beggars can’t be choosers!

Tried the assam fish on 9th April 2015, nice and sourish gravy. Love it. somehow this packet ahe gave me a lot of veg… don’t tell me she knows I wrote this blog post? 😒😒😒

Rating: 4.5/5. Rice a little mushy if not perfect score.

Taste: Very nice and authentic. Love the beef rendang, squid is good too, and maybe will try their assam fish next. Sambal belachan would be good if a little spicier, not enough kick. But overall, good stuff!

Portion: The mains they gave a little more than some places. Veg however very little.

Service: Ok… Speak melayu you be served better haha…

Ambience: Hot coffee shop

Price: $5.50 for the last pic.

RTE: Yes because around my work place really nothing much to eat.

Location: 218 Changi Road. Coffee shop hours.

TenderBest Western Food – Eunos, Singapore

Advertisements

I just realised that I have not written anything on this stall in Eunos after patronizing for more than a decade. Maybe because when of the long period I was in China. It’s just so good to rekindle with the awesome food here. One thing that I didn’t notice from the last time is that this stall is actually halal certified. So Muslim friends can also eat from the stall.

The stall. Self-service but quite fast.

My favourite grilled chicken.

Rating : 4.5/5.

Taste: I love the BBQ half chicken with fragrant rice. Really value for money on top of the juicy and tender chicken! The rice is similar to chicken rice type hence taste more awesome with the chicken rice chilli sauce they provide. Their fried wings are also very good at $1.30 each, although less healthier.

Portion: Above average.

Service: Self-service.

Ambience: Within a coffee shop.

Price: $5.50 comes with rice or fries.

RTE: Always!

Location: Eunos Food Station, 2A Eunos Crescent, Singapore 401002. Coffee shop hours.
