Five & Dime Eatery – River Valley, Singapore

Advertisements

To be honest, ever since I was based overseas, I lost count of the number of new eateries and cafes that have been sprouting out in every corner in this small country. Even as I speak now, there may be a couple of cafes being set up… Five & Dime was introduced by a friend as we were looking for a place for coffee and dessert. So we took a drive there and this place is really convenient for parking your car as they have free parking at the Teochew Clan Association (I think) beside.

They reserved a table for me! Awwwww…. 😉

The Nutella tart looked damn good but I like Carrot Cakes more…
Friend’s Creme Brulee ($12), pretty well done and tasted pretty good. Quite pricey though.
Piccolo Latte ($5) with 2 traditional candy biscuit
Super nostalgic
Carrot Cake ($12) – Love the taste of this carrot cake especially the moist in the cake. Don’t really like the layer of condense milk on top though, still prefer the cream cheese topping. Nevertheless, this cake is pretty awesome.
Perfect moist and lots of fillings inside.
My Cafe Latte ($6) – Very well extraction, average milk foaming. I repeated my order for this.

DoubleShots Handcrafted Coffee – North Bridge Road, Singapore

Sorry it’s been a while but time wasn’t in my control. My work/life is in total imbalance now and I’m working on balancing it again. Nevertheless, here I am, writing again, hoping you guys are still hanging there.

Doubleshots is a place not as popular as the other cafes but I found them anyhow. I was so curious about this place as I have passed many times and finally I decided to visit one day. The cafe is a very small one and hardly sits more than 8 pax inside. There are a few alfresco seats outside but limited. So I found myself a seat inside as it was in the afternoon, and the pics below tells the story.

A very expensive La Pavoni double Level Espresso machine… suppositely the perfect way to pull an espresso shot… but it takes a longer time.

The lattes are not filled to the brim but I reckon if any more milk added, the boldness will be compromised.
Blueberry cheese cake… I suspect not fresh
Cheesecake was a little wet below… means too long in the fridge…
They have pizzas as well, so it’s good to sit outside if you don’t wanna smell of pizzas….

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: The latte was really good, great house blend. Cake was a let down though.

Portion: Average

Service: 4/5

Ambience: Nice but very small

Price: $4.50 for a doubleshot latte, cheapest so far.
