大少重庆小面 – UPPER BOON KENG, SINGAPORE

While I was checking out the herbal soups from my previous post, I chanced upon this stall managed by a young guy from China but I believe very much settled down here already. The noodles were definitely nostalgic for me as the portions you order are in 两 (Liang). So if you dunno, 1两 is around 50-60g (many schools of thoughts online but this stall is using 50g). 10-12两 is 1斤 (1 Catty). So how much is good for you? Normal adult will order 2两, 1两 is for kids. I would need 4两. Don’t judge ok, size does matter haha.

What I like about this outlet is that the whole stall is managed by the young man! Takes a little longer waiting time during lunch and dinner times but no choice lah, manpower for F&B is tough. I love the texture of the noodles, really reminds me of the times I would have my noodle fixes in China. Best of all the beef slices were not as tough as those in China and rather tasty overall. That explains the 4.8 rating on Google Maps.

Lorong Lew Lian is a very small estate area consisting of only 8 old HDB blocks and my aunty is living in one of them. So I kinda grew up in this area as I stayed with her during some holidays when I was growing up. To be honest, for the longest time, I don’t remember there are good food around this area. Usually mediocre options for the neighbourhood which you just eat and fill your stomach for that meal. Until 18 Seafood came along about 2 years back, changing the stereotypical Zichar stall expectations with very interesting Cantonese style cuisine and cooking methods.

What I like about this outlet is that the dishes are very creative but yet yummy. The Fried Mee Pok is prolly the only one in Singapore and is really yummy! I can eat that on a daily basis! The glutinous rice crispy chicken was delicious and a lot of work just to make it so crispy that you can cut by scissors! Another dish worth mentioning is definitely the Champagne Ribs. So well seasoned and juicy with every bite! The complimentary Pheonix Claws in Abalone Sauce was so well done my late Cantonese Grandma would love!
