哈肯舖手感烘焙 Hogan Bakery – Taipei, Taiwan

Advertisements

Most tourists who visits Taipei don’t go for bakeries like I do. Cos I have a passion for breads! I just can’t resist them and I heard from my friend in Taipei, she said this is an award winning one. So since I was there for lunch, I went there to get some of their breads to try. Breads are good but I still feel Top Pot Bakery has a better texture to their breads.

Rating: 5/5

Taste: Very good. Different texture from Top Pot Bakery but nice nevertheless. Didn’t try their award winning one cos all were sweet. I’m more to savory side.

Portion: Average

Service: Very good

Ambience: A little crampy when choosing the bread… maybe cos of my size… ;P

Price: See bill

RTE: Yeah!

Location: They have 6 outlets. The one I went is at Banqiao. http://www.hoganbakery.com.tw/eshop//article/index.php?ncid=79

Manhattan Business Restaurant – Hougang, Singapore

Advertisements

This is actually a bad review for this coffee shop located at Block 811 Hougang Central, just opposite the entrance of Hougang Mall’s main entrance… Dunno why it’s named as a restaurant but that’s not the main issue. The main issue with this place is the drinks stall. The drinks are all overpriced… Overpriced is ok with anyone I guess but at least make your drinks taste good right?

A Kopi-C kosong (coffee with evaporated milk & no sugar) cost $1.20 (or was it $1.30?) and totally watered down! I was basically drinking hot water with a little coffee taste and a little evaporated milk! Drain water may taste even better! I read from foursquare that their milo is also bad! Overheads may be high but come on, not so bad until you scrimp so much from your drinks right?? Imagine it was so bad that I swore I had to write this article! Hope the owner reads this and do some changes for the prices they are charging…

But with all due respect, the chicken rice there is awesome but be prepared to queue during peak hours!

Store front…
Taste like water from the drain…

胡须张 Formosa Chang – Taipei, Taiwan

Advertisements

Friends who frequent Taipei will know this name. In direct translation is Beard Zhang. This is not a pub or an attraction. It’s actually a well known economical rice value packs takeaways (便当), which is almost everywhere in Taipei… and expanding outwards. Came highly recommended by a friend (Thanks Elaine!), so I had to try this on my 2nd day in Taipei! This is great for those stuck in the hotel rooms cos of bad weather or too lazy to go out. 🙂 They started from just doing these value packs and now they have dishes so you can just call and order, and your lunch or dinner can be settled.

Packaging box
招牌便当
卤肉便当
This one’s no longer on the menu… guess not so popular.
White Bittergourd Soup With Spare Ribs. Very tasty but pretty oily.
Receipt

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Too many options to choose from. Tasted quite good but quite oily. Best option when you just wanna chill out in your hotel.

Portion: Average.

Price: Very affordable. See pic. But min order is TWD$300.

RTE: Yes! Wanna try the rest of the other rice packs!

Location: All over Taipei! Check out their website and call the nearest outlet near your hotel! http://www.fmsc.com.tw/retail.php

香港满记甜品 @ Haizhu, Guangzhou

Advertisements

Ok I know you must be thinking why should I review such a popular dessert chain of stores right? Reason is, what they have in HK is different from the ones in China. In fact they have some other interesting items which distinguish them from their HK parent chain of stores. I was putting up at Lido Hotel on Beijing Lu in Guangzhou last month and this dessert store is just downstairs! Apart from other many great food places lah…

The Store
The Ambience
Deco
The guy took out a ciggy to smoke and was asked to go out of the shop! LOL!
All thanks to the new non-smoking law in public places in Guangzhou! Woot!
Soy Beancurd with mango and pomelo.
Durian Pudding RMB$22 per piece
Very soft skin and lovely durian puree inside.
Tried this also
Baked and served hot!
Baked sago custard on top and yam paste inside! Damn nice!

Rating: 4.5/5. Prices a tad too high.

Taste: Was really nice and addictive especially the durian thing… I had 2 servings!

Price: A bit on the high side but still affordable to us.

Portion: Below average for the price paid.

RTE: If I see them in Shenzhen, I might just pop by.

Location: This one is below Lido Hotel, Beijing Lu, Guangzhou. They have many branches in HK, SZ and GZ.
