Not my first time patronising from this stall and I discovered them about 2 to 3 years back when I was exploring Timber+ for good food. Of course the words Curry Rice on the signage caught my eyes and got Peranakan some more, made me wanna try it more!
荣妈 (Rong Ma) is named after his Mother-In-Law who guided him in his cooking but the main influence comes from his Peranakan background, which has a good mix of Malay and Teochew baba styles, which is shown in his dishes today!
What I like about this outlet is that Chef Owner Mexes passionately preps and cooks all the 20+ dishes himself from as early as 6am, with the help of his dearest wife of course. So that they are ready to start selling from 10am and their food usually finishes by 2 to 3pm. So be sure to be early to catch some real good Peranakan Kali Peng (Curry Rice) ya!

Have been wanting to try this place and finally I found time with mummy just before this Phase 2 HA lock down. It’s a nice casual restaurant where you can get not just your zichar and Penang dishes but also Nasi Lemak and Beehoon Mee for brekkie. When it comes to their Penang dishes, the Penang Laksa ($6.80) is definitely the winner, with a portion of prawn paste and housemade chilli to go with it. Creeping up behind is the Char Kway Teow ($8.80) which comes with crab meat on top and 2 large prawns with super duper wok hei. Damn delicious! Penang Lor Bak with Prawn Crackers also not bad but a little on the expensive side.

House of Peranakan Petit is the latest addition not only to the House of Peranakan Group of Restaurants (www.houseofperanakan.com.sg) but also to the ever so popular Tiong Bahru region. Located at Eng Hoon Street, this little (no puns intended) 30-seater modern Peranakan restaurant is set to bring heritage food to an area surrounded by hipster cafes.

I was here for a lunch meeting on one Sunday not too long ago and was also invited for food tasting again a week after. This restaurant has been around since 1985 and apparently, not many people know about this place… at least for my network of my friends after I’ve posted on my instagram as I was having my meal. Yes, I’m food porning instantaneously now. LOL! Anyways, check out the pics below and the glorious food!
I must say the dishes evoked memories of my last time trying some of those authentic Peranakan dishes! Yummy, definitely, love the way they are keeping their traditions alive and make their home-cooked dishes available to their patrons! So how would I rate this place?
