泉 QUAN NASI LEMAK ECONOMICAL BEEHOON – JALAN BATU, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

I dare you to ask for extra beehoon or mee and finish it alone in one sitting at this stall. For beehoon mee lovers like myself will love it. After writing about their kway chap neighbour in my previous post, this stall is a stall I can’t miss. Food wise not the best but good enough for me if I’m looking for a beehoon mee fix.

Stall Front
Not much stuff left cos it was 11am…
This weighed over half a kg and I believe it’s only $2+
Smaller packet but big enough portion for normal adult. $1+ only.

What I like about this stall is that the portions are HUGE!!! Just how huge you may ask… Let’s say if you tapao, the measurements would roughly be 20cm x 20cm x 10cm(H)! And on top of that, they are probably one of the cheapest around! The uncle in front of me bought beehoon with chicken wing and half a fishcake was only $1.70! Yes they can have half a ngoh hiang or chicken cutlet also. But cannot half egg lah, later aunty half you then you know 😜. Quan is definitely a hidden gem and one that helps the community by providing affordable food! Well done!

BOH GEH UNCLE CANTEEN – SELETAR, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

A popular place for those working around that Seletar area, cab and Grab Drivers and apparently also to those who are doing their round island cycling. A really run down canteen with a kampong feel and only 3 stalls; Malay, Chinese and drinks. The Malay stall sells Nasi Lemak, Nasi Padang, Mee Siam, etc, dishes while the Chinese one is your usual Economical Rice stall. The drinks stall is managed by the owner himself with 2 lady generals making sure no one snaps photos of the premises and the food you paid for, which I thought was rather weird cos the other 2 stalls definitely need more publicity. Well, uncle must have his reasons lah.

What I like about this place is that the prices remain the same like in the 80s… Just like the ambience of this canteen, time came to a standstill. Don’t expect very nice hawker food here but they are very affordable which I feel is what keeping the lower income workers going.

327 Fried Beehoon Nasi Lemak – Hougang, Singapore

Advertisements

Sorry for the lack of posts recently cos it has been madness since I came back from Medan and the mountains in North Sumatra region. It was definitely a rewarding trip as I was experiencing semi-wet processing of coffee beans for the first time and that this method of processing is pretty rare in the Southeast Asian region. Anyways I have loads of food pics to share, I will find a starting point soon.

Anyways this beehoon stall was previously at block 309 of Hougang Avenue 5. They had to move due to the landlord jacking up the rentals so that they can take it back and perhaps rent out to their preferred vendors. Very apparent problem in F&B scene unless of course you’re a brand to reckon with. But I’m actually even more happy to see them at block 327 as I board my buses from the bus stop there haha.

Good thing about this beehoon stall is that their prices are reasonable and at the same time, tastes good. There is another stall at block 322 which has been monopolizing the area for quite a while, even though the taste is really just soso.

Always got queue, even on weekdays!

Choices of maggi mee, beehoon, kway teow mee or nasi lemak.

All the toppings you might wanna add to your base of beehoon or noodles. The tofu on the right is surprising nice and I order that sometimes.

Their top topping is this fried boneless chicken thigh. Well seasoned and crispy when eaten there. Soggy when takeaway.

See how juicy the chicken thighs are… yums

Beehoon with kway teow mee, with veg, luncheong meat, fried chicken thighs and egg. Total $4.80.

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: As mentioned, the food is really good, well seasoned for the meats, only thing to pick on is the sambal chilli. Can be a little less liquid.

Portion: Normal portions are big. I ask for extra beehoon sometimes.

Service: Self-service. Lady over the counter serves while the hubby cooks behind. Service is good.

Ambience: Hot… Coffeeshop.

Price: Reasonble

RTE: All the time!

Address: 327 Hougang Avenue 5 Coffeeshop. Hours: 7-10.30am.

OTWAT: Which means Other Things Worth A Try. I would recommend the Claypot Chicken Rice which is cooked from scratch, vegetarian beehoon (a little pricey), laksa, and Tse char are not bad too.

Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak – Changi Village, Singapore

I’m trying to do more videos as much as I can as some places are not conducive enough for me to record. Thanks for the good responses so far my friends, really very encouraging! 🙂

This is my first time trying this stall as I usually have my nasi lemak at the famous ‘international’ one. However that one the standard has dropped quite a bit… reckon they shouldn’t have gone ‘global’… ;P

Anyways what I can say about this stall is, the rice is really nice and fluffy which it looks like Basmati Rice to me (apparently is has slightly lesser calories and carbs as compared to white rice) Not to mention the fragrance from the coconut milk in the rice is totally addictive! Try keep to just one standard serving of rice! It’s TOUGH! I ordered the A set which comprise of a tasty and crispy chicken wing, crispy ikan bilis, egg, cucumber and the awesome sambal chilli. I went around 4pm, already there’s a short queue (queued for around 15 mins)… Can’t imagine during peak hours… My only complain is, the fish is crispy, but not crispy enough, reason is the fish is a little too big… well chicken and egg issue… you want it crispy, lesser flesh and vice versa…

So go try this place and let me know what you think. 😉

Later y’all,

Big Roy
