Emirates Flight Food – Singapore-Melbourne

Advertisements

Hey y’all!

Sorry I haven’t been writing for the longest time because of my new venture. If you guys have been following my Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve been to Melbourne, Japan and Chiangrai all in the month of December and most recently, I’ve also started a coffee bar BLACK&INK (www.fb.com/blackandink or Instagram @blackandink). It has been a very hectic 2 weeks since our opening, and we have been blessed with great support from friends, relatives and fellow food bloggers! And some friends whom I haven’t met since leaving secondary school! Seems like BLACK&INK is gonna be a great catch up place for my ex-classmates and ex-colleagues!

Anyways I will be commencing on writing on my trip to Melbourne and the places I’ve been starting with this post! Yes, plane food again. To be honest I like plane food. Especially the longer flight ones. This time I took a joint flight between Qantas and Emirates and I must say their in-flight food is pretty awesome. Love the additions of snacks in the middle of the tray to the usual mains and desserts. Check out the pics below.

Nasi Lemak – Tiger Airways, Singapore

This is my 2nd time in history writing about flight food(First one was for Jetstar http://wp.me/pCcuC-cC). No, I really do have a lot of backlogs for eatwithroy but just wanna highlight the shocks you can get ordering flight food on budget airlines.

I was on my way back to Shenzhen and was damn hungry as I didn’t have any dinner. So I asked the flight attendant what would they recommend. Nasi Lemak was highly recommended. So I decided to order since it’s their best seller and it looks pretty good. So I ordered the set, which is more worth it at S$16.

Looks good right?
The set

So after waiting for like 20 minutes, my food came.

The actual thing…

The portion was so little, I was like I need to eat 4 of these to be full. The rice was around 8cm x 8cm x 2cm in size. It was soggy and very soft. high chance due to freeze/thaw too many times. The chicken was in small pieces and the egg was a little quail’s egg. I was thinking, at least give half a normal egg or 2 quail eggs, I could have felt better. For it’s ala carte price of S$12, it’s something quite hard to swallow! I could have 3 servings of Mizzy Corner’s Nasi Lemaks! Set A, B and C! (http://wp.me/pCcuC-HT). However that said, the chicken rendang tasted pretty decent but I was looking for the sambal chilli which I suspect was at the bottom of the rendang curry.

They gave me a bigger fruit cup ‘cos can’t find the smaller cup for the set. Opening this is a challenge ‘cos the syrup inside is filled to the brim… damn silly if you ask me.

I reckon that’s the price to pay for having your meals so high up. But sometimes it’s good to spend as there are some commissions for the air crew for every sale. So if the service is good for you, buy something! 🙂

Rating: 3/5

Portion: 2/5

Service: 4/5. The crew was too lazy to find the small fruit cup but the lead was good in his service as he recognizes me as a regular with Tiger Airways.

Ambience: NA

Price: S$16 per set, S$12 ala carte.

RTE: Unlikely… unless the crave is too great that I cannot wait till I’m home in SG.

Dinner On Jetstar

Yeah you better believe it, I’m gonna blog on airplane food… maybe because I paid for it… haha… Was on my way back to Singapore from HK and was famished and tired from a whole day of running around… very long story on how long I was standing and travelled. PM me and I will tell you slowly… haha…

So as usual I always pay more for the seats with more leg room cos being so big size, no choice lah. Though the seats are good, there are 2 very irritating problems sitting on these seats.

  1. The middle part of the plane is always the hottest… dunno why… the coldest parts are always in the front… like the first 8 rows.
  2. I always get to order my food last… reason is, they start from the front and the back. A few occasions they ran out of the hot food then I will end up having cookies and nuts with coke for dinner or lunch. They should serve those who pay more first!!!

So same thing lah, this trip, the trolley of food I have to wait patiently…

The wait can be like 15-20mins... Cos some idiots just can't make up their minds...
So I had loads of time to plan what to eat... To be honest, nothing is really fantastic... they should get me to review on the food first before putting up here. I heard from my neighbours from the same flight the chicken rice sucks, fried rice is worse... no chilli to go along... I guess it's because of the smell... then they shouldn't put it in the menu in the first place!
There you go... the only thing that is worth eating for $8.00. Chicken Focacia!
Think I just love bread on the whole... anything that is bread... I like... hehe...
But this one is really good... they will toast the bread and the chicken is juicy and perfect with the cheese and tomato slices. Yums!

Rating: 4/5. Cos wait too long…

Taste: Yummy for what I ordered!

Portion: Pretty reasonable I guess for $8.00…

Price: $8.00 for sandwich, $3.00 for coke, $3.00 for nuts and $3.00 for pringles chips.

RTE: Yes as long as I’m flying Jetstar.

Location: Errr…. Terminal 1?
