大少重庆小面 – UPPER BOON KENG, SINGAPORE

YouTube Poster

While I was checking out the herbal soups from my previous post, I chanced upon this stall managed by a young guy from China but I believe very much settled down here already. The noodles were definitely nostalgic for me as the portions you order are in 两 (Liang). So if you dunno, 1两 is around 50-60g (many schools of thoughts online but this stall is using 50g). 10-12两 is 1斤 (1 Catty). So how much is good for you? Normal adult will order 2两, 1两 is for kids. I would need 4两. Don’t judge ok, size does matter haha.

What I like about this outlet is that the whole stall is managed by the young man! Takes a little longer waiting time during lunch and dinner times but no choice lah, manpower for F&B is tough. I love the texture of the noodles, really reminds me of the times I would have my noodle fixes in China. Best of all the beef slices were not as tough as those in China and rather tasty overall. That explains the 4.8 rating on Google Maps.

Go check it out and let me know if you like this place too by commenting below! Please remember to subscribe and like my YouTube channel, IG and FB (@eatwithroy) page that I can reach out more to help the hawkers and small business community for FREE! Stay tuned for my next yummy video! 😋

信记牛肉面 Xin Ji Beef Noodle – Hougang, Singapore

Advertisements

Alright this was something I promised to review yesterday. Chanced upon this stall cos I was there for brekkie and picked mum up. A little rare to find Beef Noodle specialty stalls in neighbourhood coffee shops. Managed to speak to the boss cos I was the first customer and he mentioned that his soup base is using only pure beef and bones. True enough he scooped up and showed me. And it tasted like it too cos usually with MSG or the flavoured powder, I’ll get thirsty after half an hour. A hidden gem indeed.

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: Soup was really nice but not overly rich which usually is caused by adding those pre-mixes. The tendons were to die for! So soft and tender! Beef brisket could use a little more time as I prefer mine to be more tender. Tripe was shioks along with other items. Chilli wise they had chinchalok which I thought was pretty detailed. Thumbs up for the effort!

Portion: Pretty ok.

Price: $8. Not cheap but all clean foods are not cheap anyways haha!

Service: Self-service.

Ambience: Renovated coffee shop.

RTE: Yes I would return to eat!

Easy. Chatuchak Beef Noodles – MacPherson, Singapore

Advertisements

Opened not too long ago by young hawkerpreneurs, this Thai style beef noodles is really pretty close to what I ate in Thailand. Got the lead from one of my riders working in Wawa Pictures and so here I am.

Located away from the main road, this little stall is tucked away from sight and you’ll have to find the coffeeshop that is within some neighbourhoods. Check it out.

I put about half of the little saucer… damn spicy but shioks!

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: The broth is da bomb!!! Rich and beefy! A little sweet like Thai style but I reckon the Thais would love it sweeter! Glass noodles are nicer and chewy, the way I like it! Beef Shank and beef slices could be a little more tender but the satisfaction from the broth and noodles are enough to hide that part. The chilli oil is really damn spicy! Really awesome!

Portion: Above average. Noodles quite good portion or is it cos I dieting?

Service: Self-service

Ambience: Coffeeshop

Price: $6 + $1.50 (extra shank)

RTE: Yes! The roast meats stall beside is also damn good!

Location: 18B Circuit Rd, Singapore 372018

Traditional Hainan Beef Noodle (传统海南牛肉粉)

Few weeks ago I was on my usual Tuesday food trail when I decided to visit the very old North Bridge Road Market & Food Centre. I was there ages ago so I decided to check them out again.

I really took my time to scrutinize on what to eat cos I knew I need to plan my indulgence as I would be eating at a few places. Then I found this interestingly wrong spelling signage stall which I though could be the hidden gem I was looking for. I placed my order of the bigger portion with extra ingredients (greedy me!) and the food came shortly after.

Wrongly spelt ‘Tranditional” signage. Could be on purpose! Who knows?! ;P

My beef kway teow arrived. looks just too awesome lah!

Now let me introduce the ingredients inside. This is fresh sliced beef.

Beef brisket. Very tender.

Beef tendon. omg this gel-like tendon is just heavenly.!

Beef tribe. Love this a lot!

Beef Balls may be factory mass produced type but theirs are added with minced fried flat fish

Respect to the hawkers, finish your food and lick the plates/bowls clean! (Joking about the licking part…)

Rating: 5/5.

Taste: Nice beefy thick sauce with hints of Chinese herbs used but yet not too overwhelming. Condiments used are pretty authentic. Salted veg, grounded peanuts suggest that they have been around for some time. I was told by Aunty they used to be from Blanco Court… That building must have been torn down some 20 years ago.

Portion: My $6.00 portioning is quite ok. I didn’t ask for extra Kway Teow to be added.

Service: Self-service.

Ambience: Hawker center.

Price: $6.00. Normal bowl size starts from $4.00.

RTE: Yes definitely!

Location: 861 North Bridge Road Food Market #01-93. Mon-Sat: 11.30am-6.30pm, 10pm-3.30am. Closed on Sundays. Tel: 90544476

Bugis Street Ngak Seah Beef Kuay Teow @ Lavendar Foodcourt

Advertisements

I’ve been eating this beef kuay teow since 1995 and the prices hasn’t change much since… Just by a dollar difference. So I was at Lavendar Foodcourt again after such a long time and decided to have my favourite mixed beef kuay teow. Surprisingly, they do not have any reviews print out on this stall… so I decided to write about them.

The stall... see the prices didn't change much...

Yummy dried kuay teow... with some beef balls soup... for S$4

A lot of ingredients... nice

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: Still has the authentic beef kuay teow taste of yester years… Tribe is tender and beef is fresh. Love it!

Portion: Average.

Price: $4.00 or $5.00

RTE: Yeah…

Location: Lavendar Food Court. Easy to spot. 🙂

Qing Ji Beef Kway Teow (204 Hougang St 21)

Heard about this place from my buddy’s mummy. So I took the opportunity to try it out when I headed there to do my banking last week. And when I reached the coffeeshop, there was already a queue there at 11+am. So after a wait of 10 mins, I finally got my medium sized bowl of beef kway teow.

Took the dry kway teow option to try the thick sauce. Awwwwwwwesome is the word... comes with the salted vegetable and grounded peanut... very very traditional and adds a lot to the taste.

Check out the amount of meat, tendon and tripe. Cooked to perfection. Love it!

Specially made chilly sauce with chinchalok. Perfect for dipping the beef parts.

Extremely thick beef soup... a little salty though if not will be perfect!

Qing Ji Beef Kway Teow Stall

Rating: 4.5/5 (A tad too salty. If not will be perfect.)

Taste: Like I said a bit salty lor… not good for the elderly or those on special diets. But the sauce or broth are so good, you just have to try it to know. Try the soup with rice might be a better choice.

Portion: Above average

Price: $4.50

RTE: Yes definitely. In fact I’ll go back again this week! 🙂

Location: Block 204 hougang Street 21’s coffeeshop. Near NTUC Fairprice.
