正正菜市肉脞面 AUTHENTIC CHAI CHEE BAK CHOR MEE – MACPHERSON, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

I sompah I chanced upon this stall without knowing what to expect from this coffee shop. It’s truly a blast from the past cos I used to live just behind only. Spotted this Bak Chor Mee stall so I thought I should give it a try since it says authentic. At first I found the taste to be very similar with the stall at 511 Bedok North and only after I left the place that I found out that this stall is the dad of the 511 Bedok North stall and he set up this stall cos he was bored and wanted to sell BCM again.

What I like about this outlet is that the taste is almost as good as the 511 one and it’s available in the afternoon. 511 one as you may know, opens only in the evening. So this is an alternative for me if the craving sets in and I’m near this area.

AN AN MINCED MEAT NOODLES – BEDOK, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

For those who are wondering where they have moved to, they are now at Bedok at the address below. An An suffered a huge loss due to the recent fire in Block 823A Tampines coffeeshop, which literally wiped out everything. What I heard is the insurance was only for the coffeeshop and not the individual stalls, which I found it quite dubious. Anyways they are drawing a queue already at this usually quiet coffeeshop.

What I like about this stall is the sambal chilli for the dry version. Really nice and goes darn well with the noodles and vinegar. Noodles can be a little more al dente, a little overcook I feel but it’s tasty. The soup that comes with it has wantons. The wantons are surprisingly meaty and yummy. Pork balls are normal, unlike some other races the pork balls have teepor (dried sole fish) inside, which makes it a lot more flavourful. This stall has definitely injected life and competition to this quiet end of Bedok but it may not be for long as they have plans to move back to their hood in Tampines once renovation is ready.

利发小老板 – HOUGANG, SINGAPORE

Didn’t know the existence of this new stall until I revisited this coffeeshop that I grew up with. Used to be a Prawn Noodle stall after the renovation but now, this Bak Chor Mee stall. Queued up for it and tried the Mee Sua version. It was damn good!!! Prolly one of the best around I’ve tried with the right blend of vinegar, sauce and chilli paste. Tapao the Mee Pok version for Diana and she also agreed the taste is good!

汕源鱼圆肉脞面 (San Yuan Gourmet) – Ang Mo Kio, Singapore

Advertisements

Was told that this is a 24hrs stall and I decided to check it out since I was around the area. Wasn’t difficult to find them, just have to listen out for ladle-clanging-on-porcelain-bowl sound and you’ll find them.

Naturally when I was there, there’s a queue. I dunno if the queue was there because the noodles are damn good or it’s because it’s the only noodle stall there 24hrs? Only way is to find out.

Long queue lah…

My bowl of Bak Chor Mee $3

Interesting they have crispy ikan bilis inside. Adds to the flavours.

Fishball soup $2

Rating: 4.5/5.

Taste: Really like the taste of the noodles but I found the noodles were a little soggy for me. The pork lard bits were crispy and burst in my mouth. The addition of ikan bilis was a final touch to the whole awesome taste. Pork and liver were very fresh and cooked to perfection without blood sightings. Fishballs were smooth and springy type. Overall was good.

Portion: Good portions.

Service: Self-service.

Ambience: Hawker centre, very dim lighting, dirty tables cos no cleaners at night.

Price: $3 for noodles, $2 for fishballs soup

RTE: I might… cos there’s a 24hrs Giant supermarket and bakery there catered for people like me.

Location: 527 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 #01-148

Secret to great tasting noodles!

The bowl of goodness comes with 2 very fresh shrimps, sliced fishcake, 2 fishballs, pork slices and pork lard. The noodles are very different; eggy, supple, and very yummy. Not your regular alkaline tasting HK noodles. Really love the texture of it! Fishballs are really nice and soft too!

添南興肉脞面 (Minced Pork Noodle) – Bedok, Singapore

Advertisements

I was told that this Bak Chor Mee stall is better than the ones at Block 85 of Bedok so here I am. See review below.

Taste:
I love the broth, cos the raw minced pork is mixed inside the broth before serving, giving it a very yummy meaty taste to every spoonful. And there are bits of fried bonito (tee por) inside to make the soup even more flavourful. Noodles are springy but not the best of noodles though.

Price:

$4.00

Portion:

Good

Service:

Pay and wait to be served.

AH HOE MEE POK – CLEMENTI, SINGAPORE

Advertisements

Intro:Read about this interesting Japanese family in Clementi who started partnered with Ah Hoe Mee Pok to open 2 outlets. Going there you’ll definitely need to drive that’s why I only manage to visit them only now thanks to Uber. So the story in summary is Father quit from his regular job and decided to learn from the original Ah Hoe Mee Pok owner by working 6 months for free. So now they have 2 stalls operating at different hours to cater for their customers. Block 710 is managed by the daughter which opens much earlier and block 713 is managed by the brother while the father now oversees everything. As I only knew about 710, that’s the stall I visited.

Th Stall
Their latest fusion noodles
My order of mee pok dry $4
After finishing the noodles still got so much ingredients! Next time must order extra noodles!
My bowl of Miso Mee Kia. $6. See how the pork lard is finely cut and fried to perfection? Yums!
Love how mee kia soaks up the miso sauce. Yums!
Every bowl should be left like that. #worldcleanplate
Reina took this pic with me without knowing who I was.

Taste:

Taste wise is pretty classic. Not really a Mee Pok fan but at least the flavours were there. Would add a little more vinegar for my taste. The miso version which I tried weeks later was really yummy. I chose mee kia this time round and love how the miso sauce soaks up in the noodle.

Price:

$4 for the Mee Pok, $6 for the Miso

Portion:

Above average. Noodles standard but ingredients really a lot. See pic.
