Revisiting this place again after one over year. I have previously written on this place before (http://wp.me/pCcuC-Iw) but this time we have tried many other stuffs which we never tried before.

Looks the same
Price list on the chicken rice side
Big Pau RM$5 – All time favourite… as big as my hand.
This coffee is pretty good. RM$2.50
Zhu Chang Fen RM$9.00 – Another all time favourite. Seems like this time there are more ingredients also… Or is it because I ordered? Hmmm…
Pan Mee RM$9 – Saw many people eating this so ordered to share with mum. To our surprise, this is actually quite good! The broth is really nice but a little too salty.
See, so much ingredients inside.
First time trying this curry mee RM$9
A little heavy, spicy but taste pretty good.
Had this nixed vegetable rice over one lunch RM$9 – Huge portion and really not bad.
Fried Hokkien Mee RM$10 – First time trying this and it was pretty good. The taste is pretty close to the good one in KL. Must eat with the garlic and green chilli, all mix together.
Wan Ton Mee RM$9.00 – Also first time trying. Typical Malaysian Wan Ton Mee cos of the black sauce. Noodles are springy, char siew is good but fried wan ton not crispy, prolly left there too long. Overall quite nice.

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Overall still good.

Portion: Above average for some, average for some.

Service: Self service.

Ambience: Natural cold air from outside, some people do smoke inside.

Price: Stated.

RTE: All the time!

Location: Basement 5 of Resort Hotel, Genting Highlands.

Lot 10 Hutong 十號胡同 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Advertisements

Haven’t been shopping or even walking along the streets of Bukit Bintang in KL for the longest time and this time I made it a point with a friend who happened to fly in Kuala Lumpur at the same time from Hong Kong. So we decided to catch up over dinner and while we were wandering around, we saw this place with all the signages…

So many signages!

So we decided to check out this place… how wrong can it go when it’s recommended by 蔡澜, the famous food critic/celebrity from Hong Kong. To our surprise, this is suppose to be a foodcourt where they get the best streetfood in Malaysia and house them there! Check out the pics below, and tell me how not to salivate??!!

No fix layout, it’s a little like a maze actually. Who cares when there’s aircondition? ;P
金莲记 Kim Lian Kee – Famous Fried Hokkien Mee since 1927 from the Chinatown of KL. This is a must try!
You can see the cook frying your noodles and they fry plate by plate to ensure consistent quality.
This is damn yummy but at RM$11.50. Normally you can get this outside for RM$6-$8?
Pin Qian Bak Kut Teh – Another must try if you like the black soup herbal versions.
Bak Kut Teh is seriously rich herbal broth. Very yummy but no soup top up. Sad.
They have Braised Pork Leg as well. Not too bad.
Fried Oyster Omelette – Not too bad, not crispy on the outer layer of the flour.
Penang prawn cake and ngoh hiang. Soso only.
The char siew looks damn good so must order…
Yummy plate of char siew for RM$20. I find it a little hard though. Maybe been there for some time cos we had it for dinner.

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Hokkien Mee is really good. We should have tried the wan ton noodles and beef ball noodles but no stomach space. Bak Kut Teh is good too.

Portion: Below average.

Service: Food court, soso.

Ambience: Crampy, aircon, foodcourt

Price: All that less than RM$100.

RTE: Yes! Hokkien Mee!!!

Location: Lot 10 basement. Apparently they have one outlet in Guangzhou, China as well. http://www.lot10hutong.com.

Eat @ B5 – Genting Highlands, Malaysia

Advertisements

Yeah I’m on a roll writing Genting food ‘cos I really need to clear all the food that I reckon worthy (or not!) in my backlogs. This foodcourt place has been there for the longest time, originally opened for the bus and taxi drivers but now more people are actually eating there now. Recently renovated, this foodcourt now is a lot nicer than what it was previously. Along with the new renovation, the price of the food also escalated a lot. Nevertheless it’s prolly one of the cheapest places to eat when you’re in Genting Highlands. Check out the reviews below:

The foodcourt
Jumbo meat paus, lor mai gai and other dim sum steamer
Jumbo Pork Pau RM$5 – Huge 12cm in diameter and filled with pork, turnip and a segment of hard boiled egg.
See the amount of pork fillings inside the pau.
Chee Cheong Fun RM$9 – My mum’s all time favorite. Malaysian’s chee cheong fun comes with yong tau foo on top, which makes it more tasty, Prices climbed a lot since.
Spare Rib King – Pretty well done, love it.
Salted Fish Fried Rice – If you like salted fish like I do, order this! Crispy and fragrant pieces of fish on top, awesome.
Hor fun – Quite small plate but tasted ok.
Bill for Tse Char, pau and coffee.

Rating: 4/5

Taste: 4/5 (A lot better than some ‘higher class’ eateries in Genting)

Portion: 3.5/5

Service: Self-service. For the tse char you can opt for the dishes be served but will be more costly.

Ambience: 3/5 (Smokers are still allowed inside…)

Price: Average around RM$15-30 depending on what you eat.

RTE: All the time lor!

Location: Basement 5 of Resort Hotel, Genting Highlands. Directly opposite Theme Park Hotel.

糖水街 @ Ipoh, Malaysia

Advertisements

糖水街 means Dessert Street in Chinese and this street has a super long history behind it. When you reach there, there are so many stalls and most of them are duplicates; many similar stalls selling Za Guo Bing (Fruits on Ice), Rojak, noodles, etc. Stalls to avoid are the first few stalls for seafood… you will get chopped ‘cos it’s very expensive. The road is only one way so it’s not hard to know which are the first few stalls. Go towards 3/4 of the road, you will find my favourite rojak, dessert and wan ton noodle stalls.

Picture of the Wan Ton Noodle and Dessert Stalls together...
Looks plain but damn tasty... comes with some wan tons for RM$2.70 only... I can have like 5 plates of these... but of course only had one... ;P
Wan Tons have a very nice authentic taste... I can only find this taste in a particular stall in Johor Bahru which I have yet to review on.
Char Siew you have to add another RM$1... Seriously, the char siew not nice. So eat plain noodles is good enough.
Check out the Fruits On Ice (杂果冰)... Loads of fruits and a scoop of ice cream on top... Ice cream depends on what they get on that day... sometimes, strawberry, sometimes vanilla, etc. RM$4.50. Very worth it.
Rojak stall about 2 stalls away on the left side.
Rojak with prawn crackers... awesome! RM$3 or 4 only.
Cuttlefish... roasted over charcoal till crispy and served with the prawn paste dips... omg... I need to get back to Ipoh soon!!! RM$6-8

Rating: 5/5. You can have a very satisfying meal finishing up with lovely desserts. Nice!

Taste: Awesome. Love these authentic local food. I heard the beef noodle stall towards the end of the row is also damn good. But no more stomach space already lah!

Portion: Average.

Price: Stated on the pics.

RTE: Hell yeah!!!

Location: 糖水街… dunno what road… just tell cab driver. If you’re staying at Excelsior or Syuen Hotel, walking distance about 10 mins. Night time more stalls are open. So go after 7pm.
