鸿运茶餐厅 (Hung Wan Restaurant) – Shenzhen, China

Hung Wan Restaurant is a Cha Can Ting I frequent when I was staying in Shenzhen, China. The best thing about this place is, it is just below the regular spa I frequent too. So can order their food up and eat while I was watching TV program or having a foot massage! Awesome lifestyle back then and missing it definitely.

Hung Wan I believe are owned by Hong Kongers and they have gone through renovation recently and the interior designing was done by Millwork Interiors based in HK too. Very excellent work done, with a vibrant and energetic design giving the restaurant a younger and fresher look. Check out the pics below:

My fav fried maggie with pork chops!

Rating: 4/5.

Taste: Not bad. Tasted better but nice enough to curb my cravings. A bit on the oily side though.

Portion: Average.

Service: Slow… Cos 24hrs… lesser staff?

Ambience: Smoking now disallowed inside aircon areas but still you get some assholes smoking inside.

Price: Total about SGD$12.

RTE: Yeah if I’m visiting that spa again.

Maan Coffee (Shekou main branch) – Shenzhen, China

This coffee house is located pretty far away from where I used to stay in Shenzhen. They are at Shekou are which is around RMB$80 cab ride from my place in Futian district. Shekou is a place where there are loads of expats, reason is there are factories in that area and also there are direct ferries to Hong Kong International Airport where there are more flight options to reach their home/destinations. Shenzhen International Airport is practically a domestic airport with a few international flights… The gate for the international flights shows… small and a lot less grand than that of the domestic!

Ok enough of bitching. Maan Coffee I’ve heard about it many times but only managed to visit that place a couple of months back. Found the place with a friend who drove,  and parking was really bad. We had to literally beg the security to let us park outside the coffee house. We managed to find a lot and then check out the place.

Rating: 5/5.

Taste: 5/5. Latte was pretty well done. Espresso was pulled well and milk was at the right temperature. A lot better than the other Korean chain joint Hollys. Love the sugared toast that is served together with the coffee. Very thoughtful. Didn’t try the food as we were there after a filling lunch.

Portion: Good size cup.

Service: 5/5. I have to say they are really good for their service.

Ambience: 5/5. Full points! Renovation is not cheap!

Price: RMB$28 per cup.

RTE: If I’m in that area, of course!

Location: 南山区东滨路4076号中泰艺术名庭一栋1-2楼. Tel: 86660168. They just opened another one at 福田区车公庙泰然六路深业泰然大厦E座一楼 which I’ll review in my later posts. 🙂

深美餐厅 – Shenzhen, China

If you’ve visited Shenzhen, China, you probably might not know this place. Although situated near the Futian customs, this place is not known to tourists or even most locals. Located at the midst of Shui Wei Village of Huanggang Town, you can’t miss this corner cafe with its nicely renovated interior and exterior.  Check out the food I tried below:

Same rice rolls with char siew. Char siew was quite little though but the rolls are nice and tender. Tasted a little milky though, quite new experience for me.

Tips: Sit near the door if you don’t smoke like me. 🙂

China Story Cafe – Shenzhen, China

I was here with a friend to check out the unique interior of this cafe and this is an area not known to many as it’s out of the city. Tourists will not come to this place. After reading about this cafe, I made the effort to check it out. It’s actually quite near my place via public bus.

Ambience is nice and relaxing. Great place to catch up with friends. Cakes are good but the coffee is very bad. They seriously need to ramp up their coffee preparation skills. They have other hot meals as well but we didn’t try as dinner was approaching. You can see my reviews in the video below:

Hollys Coffee 豪丽斯咖啡 (MixC Mall) – Shenzhen, China

Alright folks, firstly I would like to thank y’all for your great support that this blogsite has hit more than 70k unique hits already. Awesome job guys! Secondly, I would like to apologize for not updating this site, reason is I’ve been bogged down by my move from Suzhou to Shenzhen. And immediately after my arrival, I got into work mode already and been busy till even today. I’m squeezing some time over weekends to update now and I have so much backlogs not just in Shenzhen but also my trip to Xiamen! I’m telling you, the food there… I really need to go again. This time I may organize a group of foodies to check out the place together. 🙂

Anyways, I would like to start with a place which I’ve checked out not too long ago. This is a famous coffee chain which is franchised from Korea, with more than 200 stores worldwide! Of course I didn’t know about this place ‘cos I’ve never been to Korea. But I found out the first store was opened in July 2012 in Shenzhen. So far they have 4 outlets in whole of Shenzhen! Check out my reviews below:

No latter art and foam was obviously scooped. The roast they use really doesn't appeal to me even though it was a triple shot. Lack of robust. Something is really wrong with the formula.

Banana Caramel Waffles with ice cream. I reckon vanilla ice cream would be nicer with this combi but then again, not a big fan of sweets.

Rating: 4/5. Extra points for ambience and service. Not so much for coffee and food though.

Taste: For those who like sweet stuff, you may like it here but nothing very special ‘cos all the sauces used are all readily available from supermarket.

Service: I must say service is pretty good. Don’t like the self-collection part though (even for food).

Ambience: Very good. But during summer the aircon may not be cool enough ‘cos of the high ceiling.

Portion: Average.

Price: The 2 entrees above with 2 grande lattes costed around RMB$130+. Pretty alright.

RTE: I wouldn’t return to eat but it’s a nice place to hang out and of course, eye candy! 😉

Location: 罗湖区宝安南路1881号万象城. It’s hidden around a corner so you may wanna ask the security guard from the mall (That’s how I found it too!) They would bring you to the road and show you which way to walk! Talk about good service yo!
