In Guangdong China, you have to eat dim sum. But where to have dimsum since everywhere has dimsum? One of the best places for good dimsum is not in a 5 star hotel or some posh restaurant but at this Arcadia Restaurant located in Luohu of Shenzhen. This place is really crowded and dimsum is available from 9am-5pm daily. This time, I had one of the best tables with the lovely view of the river that divides Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Check out my video below:
Overall Rating: 5/5. Good price, taste good, good views!
I realized I left out some good eating places in Xiamen when I was there last year. This one is particularly pretty tasty and good thing about this place is the scenery while you’re having your yum cha (chinese version of hi-tea). I’ll let the pics tell my story. 🙂
Taste: 4.5/5. Taste really good and one of the few restaurants in Xiamen that promotes no preservatives and MSG in their foods. However some dishes are a little salty, typical of Guangdong dishes. Nevertheless the food is good and great ambience to wind up your day.
Price: For 2-3 pax, total bill came up to around RMB 180. Not expensive.
RTE: Yes definitely!
Location: 思明区鹭江道33号3楼 Tel: 2112388 Opening Hours: 8am to 2.30am.
Tip: After 2200hrs all dim sum half price! Be prepared to queue though.
I definitely need to share this with all my readers here. To maybe all Asians in Southeast Asian countries, moon cakes are probably known to us as those round sweet lotus seed filling cakes that we eat during the Mid-Autumn Festival… But in these parts from Shanghai and up north of China, these meat pies are known as moon cakes to them. And the best part is, they are in sale all year round! One of my colleagues bought for me when I was working in Shanghai and this is really awesome! Check out the pics!
Taste: Really awesome. Once you start, you can’t stop at one…
Portion: The pork fillings inside are filled to the brim of the cake. Wholesome is the word!
Service: It’s a takeaway shop, long queue everyday, service ok only.
This is a regular place I would go for my dim sum and my fix of siew yoke when in Guangzhou. Very popular with the locals and you can see from the crowd… they are crowded almost every hour from the time they are open in the morning for yum cha, lunch, then afternoon yum cha again, dinner, then evening yum cha again. Reason is the variety is there, food is good and nice, price is reasonable. Try it when you are in Guangzhou the next time, just be prepared to wait like an hour.
Rating: 4.5/5. If not for the smokes, it would be a 5.
Taste: Delicious and tasty.
Portion: Slightly above average.
Price: Total for RMB$152.50… with chinese tea, towels and etc.
